THE SCHOOLS

In 2002, an idea was born in a seminary dorm room that has blossomed into something far bigger than we ever could have imagined...

The St. Nektarios Education fund awarded a $120,000 grant to its network partner, IOCC, for a new high school in Lwemiyaga, which was completed in 2013. In addition, by working with local church members, the Ugandan Orthodox Church (UOC) motivated Member of Parliament Ssekkikubo Theodore to donate the bricks and secure land for construction of the school. The local community chose the name Trenton White Memorial High School after learning of the personal loss of a donor. Located in Lwemiyaga, Uganda, the school employs 11 teachers and three administrative staff. All of them are fully paid through school income.

In order to be sustainable, the school needed permanent dormitories for girls and for boys and two additional classes for the high school. MP Theodore was willing to personally contribute a power station, a laboratory, and a computer section, and IOCC provided the girls’ dormitory and two additional high school classes.

With additional construction through the involvement of the UOC, the school now can accommodate 240 students at the secondary level. In addition to classrooms, dormitories, and administrative facilities, the school features handicap accessibility, latrines, and clean water storage and filtration.
