THE SCHOOLS
In 2002, an idea was born in a seminary dorm room that has blossomed into something far bigger than we ever could have imagined...
SAINT NICHOLAS PRIMARY SCHOOL
SEREM, KENYA
Our work began in 2002, providing scholarships for students. The Fund works with the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) to help the children in the area. Our experience here taught us that needs assessment and involvement must be local, not something imposed from abroad.

Between 2004 and 2007 we changed our focus from scholarships towards school construction. An opportunity arose to assist in the construction of St Nicholas Primary School in Serem, Kenya. Fundraising for the school had begun through the efforts of Fr. Neophytos Kongai, and we took over this effort and managed the final fund-raising and distribution of monies for construction. It was here that we instituted one of our primary organizational tenets – not only to build schools, but to build communities by hiring local workers and purchasing locally-manufactured materials.
